Maureen Seddon EMDR Therapist in the Lake District
Maureen Seddon is an accredited and experienced EMDR Therapist with over 40 years of experience working with people in both the NHS and private sector. Maureen originally qualified as a general nurse in Liverpool in 1982, training in mental health in 1984. Maureen felt there needed to be a change in how mental health is addressed. She moved to Cambridge and worked in Bedfordshire as Director in mental health services.

Having a career break and a move to the Lake District, Maureen first discovered EMDR. Training under Dr Michael Patterson OBE in Manchester, Maureen continued her training with Dr Derrek Farrell at the University of Worcester to obtain her Masters in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy. The University of Worcester is the only University in the U.K. to offer this degree.

Maureen trained in EMDR as she felt other therapies did not address the original causation of symptoms/triggers without causing further distress. Maureen works with the client to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Maureen has also trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and has achieved level 3 with IFS UK Institute. She uses this evidenced based therapy with EMDR with excellent results

Maureen is currently training in Compassionate Inquiry which was developed by Dr Gabor Mate and Dr Sat Dharam in Vancouver Canada .

Maureen is based in The Lake District, UK.
She has a particular interest in the treatment of water phobia.

Testimonials

“Difficult to explain how grateful I am for the treatment I received.  I always felt safe and secure, during the sessions, my therapist was not judgemental, was understanding, and allowed me to talk freely.  The method used, was of course new to me, but, through rapid eye movement it concentrated my thoughts and allowed to me to focus in what had been up to that point, put in a ‘box’ and, I thought, forgotten. I think it is a fantastic treatment and would whole heartedly recommend EMDR to anyone with issues they are not able to cope with themselves, whatever they may be.”

"Maureen formed an excellent professional relationship with me and engaged me in effective dialogues and continually reassured me throughout. The initial assessment and the delivery of my therapy were taken very seriously and Maureen took great care to ensure that it was relevant to me and that I understood each step of my journey. The therapy was very successful alongside the actual vivid exposure to the water and personally I would not have been at this stage if it had not been for the EMDR.

After many years of being afraid of water I now have the confidence to swim and I have achieved this with an excellent, knowledgeable EMDR therapist, Maureen.

My aqua phobia has been with me for a number of years and it was a very difficult decision for me to accept some therapy. As I was unaware of EMDR before meeting with Maureen understandably I was very skeptical. However, Maureen made my journey less difficult as she is clearly an effective therapist, guide, teacher and supporter."
